2011 Sheriff's Summer Kids Kamp Held
|
The 6th Annual Hampshire County Sheriff's Summer Kids Kamp concluded this Sunday at Peterkin Camp and
Conference Center in Romney. Approximately 65 kids, ages 9-14, attended the weekend camp that started on Friday
June 3rd. The campers enjoyed an activity packed weekend hiking, floating, and swimming. The camp is staffed
totally by volunteers from the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office, including deputies, deputy reserves, and the Sheriff.
A special focus this year was the subject of bullying. Cpl. Carter and other staff had several opportunities throughout
the weekend to talk to the kids about bullying and it's effect on youth.
This year's Kids Kamp shirt had a memorial message in memory of Deputy Bradley C. Timbrook, II and Reserve
Deputy George "Lee" Logue, both members of the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office, who passed away this past
year. Both of these men enjoyed life, and greatly contributed to Kids Kamp during their tenure with the sheriff's office.
A huge thank you goes to Daisy McBride and Peterkin Conference Center for all the help they have given the Sheriff's
Office with this project over the last 6 years. Several local organizations also helped out this year. Thanks goes out
to Romney Vol. Rescue Squad, Romney Vol. Fire Company, HealthNet Medevac, Romney Parks & Recreation
(Romney Pool), Hampshire County Board of Education Transportation Dept & Nutrition Dept, Potomac Valley Transit
Authority, Wapacoma Campground, Eastern Regional Family Resource Network, Jason Judy, Billy Welsh and
Rebecka Lewis.
