| ROMNEY MAN CHARGED WITH SEX CRIMES |
On January 1, 2008 during the evening hours, Sgt. Norm Launi of the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office,
responded to a residence located along Jersey Mountain Road in regards to a follow-up investigation of a reported
theft complaint.
While conducting the follow-up investigation on the theft, a juvenile approached Sgt. Launi and advised him that
there were inappropriate pictures and video on a computer owned by Gregory Largent involving another juvenile.
The computer was located in an abandoned building owned by the victims of the reported theft.
Sgt. Launi obtained permission to enter the abandoned building and the reporting juvenile was able to pull the
video up on a computer reportedly to be owned by Gregory Largent. Sgt. Launi immediately seized the computer
and requested Deputy Hinger to respond to the residence as well. Sgt. Launi and Deputy Hinger attempted to
locate Gregory Largent but learned that he was in Winchester, VA.
The video showed explicit sex acts involving Gregory Largent and the victim juvenile. The victim juvenile is less
than 14 years of age.
The investigation was turned over to Capt. John Eckerson and Deputy Wes Frame the following day and numerous
hours have been put into reviewing and documenting inappropriate pictures found on the seized computer.
On January 2, 2008 Deputies Wes Frame, Jed Metzler and Cpl. Jamie Carter received a report that Gregory
Largent was back at the residence located along Jersey Mountain Road. The deputies immediately responded and
made contact with Largent. He was brought to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning, and during the interview with
deputies, he admitted to performing, video taping and photographing the inappropriate sexual acts with the
juvenile.
Largent was consequently arrested and charged with three counts of felony sexual assault 3rd degree along with
numerous other felony charges involving filming sexual acts with a minor. Largent remains incarcerated at
Potomac Highlands Regional Jail.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending at this time as new evidence is being
recovered. Deputies also recovered the camera that was used for obtaining the photos. Deputy Mechelle Sabin
also provided assistance with the investigation.
Largent is a registered sex offender after having been convicted of a similar offense in 2001. Gregory Largent is
27 years old and is a Hampshire County resident.
This is a very saddening reminder to parents that they need to always be familiar with anyone who their children
are associating with.
