THREE ARRESTS MADE ON NEW YEAR'S

The Hampshire County Sheriff's Office made three arrests over New Year's Eve. Traffic on the
county's roads was fairly heavy, and the Sheriff's Office had several deputies on patrol until the
early morning hours.
Sgt. Launi, Cpl. Carter and Deputy Carroll responded to a reported fight in the parking lot behind
the Brass Rail Sports Bar, located in Romney. Upon arrival, the fight was broken up, however,
two arrests were made for obstructing an officer and public intoxication. Cathy Corbin and
Connie Higgins, both of Romney were arrested by Sgt. Launi and Cpl. Carter and remanded to
Potomac Highlands Regional Jail to await arraignment.
Later in the morning, Cpl. Carter was patrolling Rt. 50 West of Romney. A traffic stop was
conducted near the old stone quarry for a vehicle that left the roadway and was crossing the
center line. The driver, identified as Melissa Goetz was subsequently arrested for DUI 1st
offense. Goetz was transported to Potomac Highlands Regional Jail to await arraignment.
Goetz advised the officers that she was following an intoxicated friend home. An extensive
effort was made by Sgt. Launi to locate the vehicle, however was unsuccessful.
