Slanesville Man Arrested & Charged With Murder


On March 14, 2015 members of the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office, WV Natural Resource Police and
WV State Police responded to a reported shooting on Whippoorwill Song Lane near Slanesville.

Upon arrival Christopher A. Voit, age 43, was found dead laying in the roadway from an apparent gun shot
wound to the upper torso area.

Raymond M. Atkins, age 64, was quickly identified as the suspect by eyewitnesses. He was later arrested
at his residence without incident. Atkins lived near where the shooting took place.

The shooting occurred during a confrontation between Atkins and Voit. Atkins shot Voit with a high
powered rifle. Atkins reported there has been an ongoing dispute since November, 2014. Atkins and Voit
were neighbors.

Raymond Atkins was arrested and charged with first degree murder.

The Hampshire County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate.

Several Hampshire County Fire and EMS Companies, Hampshire County Office of Emergency
Management, GIS and 911 also responded to assist.
