ROMNEY MAN PLEADS GUILTY AFTER BEATING HIS FATHER
A Romney man pleaded guilty to Domestic Battery  on January 28th, after being arrested for allegedly
beating his father.  Christopher Lee Smith, age 38 of Romney was arrested on January 21st by Chief
Deputy John Alkire after being contacted by an employee of the Potomac Highlands Guild in Romney.  

The worker called the Sheriff's Office after conducting a home visit of an elderly man on Rt. 220 near
Purgitsville.  It was reported that the man had sustained injuries to his head and face after being struck
several times by his son, Christopher Smith.  The elderly man was transported to Hampshire Memorial
Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Chief Deputy John Alkire arrested Smith and charged him with abuse or neglect of an incapacitated
individual, which is a felony.  Smith appeared in Hampshire County Magistrate Court on January 28, 2010
and pleaded guilty to Domestic Battery.  He was sentenced to 9 months in jail.
