Deputies To Participate In Torch Run
Deputies from the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office will be teaming up with other law enforcement officers from
Hampshire County and surrounding areas on April 30, 2008 to take part in a yearly event for the Hampshire County
Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public
awareness vehicle, raising $30 million for Special Olympics Programs around the world in 2007.

More than 85,000 law enforcement officers carried the Flame of Hope across 35 nations, raising awareness and
funds for Special Olympics.

At its most basic level, the Torch Run is an actual running event in which officers and athletes run the "Flame of
Hope" to the Opening Ceremonies of local Special Olympics competitions, and Hampshire County's Law
Enforcement team will do jut that.  They will be departing from the steps of the county courthouse at 8:15 am on
Wednesday, April 30, 2008.  They will carry the torch along US Rt. 50 to Hampshire High School for the Opening
Ceremonies of the Hampshire County Special Olympics at Rannells Field slated to start at 9:00 am.
